Wine and Wine Moms and Mother’s Day Gifts…

With Mother’s Day coming up, we’ve been considering what kind of wine (and maybe a lovely decanter) to get Mom. After all, we’re pretty sure we’re the reason she drinks in the first place.

That got us thinking about wine and wine moms in general.

We’re not the only ones.

Between going to work, maintaining a home, and taking care of children, pets, and themselves, the daily life of a mom is never-ending. It got us wondering: How on Earth do they do it? We figured there could only be one answer: with wine, of course.

VinePair recently conducted a survey of wine moms, and whether motherhood has changed their relationship with wine.

As it turns out, factors like how many children you have, or the time of day, actually have an impact on the wine consumption habits of mothers.

Interesting, right? Let’s have a look at what their study found!

For starters, you might have assumed (we did) that mothers with the most children drank the most wine. It turns out that the opposite might, in fact, be the case. Surprisingly, moms with the most kids actually drank less than those with only one or two children.

Now this could be because larger numbers of children entertain themselves and each other more, thereby putting fewer demands on mom… but we strongly suspect that, come bedtime, moms of four and five kids are just too tired to pop a cork!

Here’s a statistic that may or may not surprise you. (And whether you’re surprised may be directly related to whether or not you’re a member of the wine mom tribe.) Over 35% of moms surveyed reported that they rarely drank wine before the joys of motherhood…

And almost the same number responded that they now indulge every single day!

Do you see what we’re getting at here?

According to the study (it’s science!), we’re correct. We are the reason mom drinks wine.

With that in mind, we’re back to our Mother’s Day shopping list. A bottle of something delightful, a decanter… and maybe we’ll include a set of those unbreakable plastic wine tumblers. That way if she drops it while trying to juggle everything else she does (or crushes it in a mom-stress death grip), it won’t be a total loss.

We recommend you consider a similar list for your own mom. After all, you’re the reason she drinks!
