What's happening in the Vineyard:
We’ve got bets on Harvest dates starting from Sept 12th through 18th.
One individual is pushing the 18th, she wouldn’t give us her real name but suggested we refer to her as Mother N …. something!
Just in case she’s wrong and Harvest starts closer to the 12th, we brought out our grape processing equipment. Sorting table, conveyors, pumps and presses, test ran them to avoid last minute problems. My vineyard crew collected samples of each variety for lab testing and the results are encouraging.
It’s a horse race as to which is going to be first, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay are at 18 percent sugar. Cab Franc and Sauvignon are close behind at 16 , the rest are somewhere between 10 to 15. Mother N …. acts as if she has a sure bet!!!
Hoses, Fermentation tanks, and pumps are at the ready, washed, cleaned and steam sterilized so as to avoid contamination. Yeast cultures are being propagated, nutrients, and press aid materials have been ordered.
Are we ready??? Of course not!! There’s always some hiccup on the actual start-up day!
