Old School Cool
You know those memes you see all over social media, advising you to “Keep calm and…” whatever?
Yeah, just like that one.
It’s part of a trend in both internet memes and real-life decorating motifs. Think of the text-style wallhangings you’ve seen in recent years.
Well, what if we told you that despite that fact that you can find these little ditties all over the internet and in many homes, it’s actually ancient wisdom?
In 2012, archeologists unearthed ruins in Turkey that suggest YOLO – You Only Live Once, if you’re not hip to the new jargon – is just the latest of many things that the kids think they invented, but have actually been around a long, long time. (Like rock and roll, sex, annoying the older generation, we could go on…)
A 2,400 year old mosaic, discovered in the southern Hatay province and reported by The Daily Sabah, seems to be the earliest (so far) example of those memes so many people love to share.
Kicked back and chillaxin’ with a loaf of bread and a jug of wine, the skeleton send his message:
“Be cheerful, enjoy your life.”
Now, if that’s not “old school cool”, we don’t know what is.
