GREAT, IT'S HOT!!!!!
August 3, 2011, Ideal for Grape growing and possibly another Super year, but the HUMIDITY!
Simply getting out of the car and you’re sure to lose a pound or two.
While on my weekly Vineyard inspection (with perspiration running down my back), I became aware of the potential for Downy and Powdery Mildew infecting the vine and fruit, ultimately ruining the crop. Granted, we can’t control the weather but we can certainly try to protect our fruit. Opening the vine’s canopy, beating down the weeds, and mowing the cover crop allowing for greater air flow is our first plan of attack. If that fails, we will manually remove leaves in the fruiting zone exposing the fruit for greater sunlight penetration and Verasion.
On your next visit to Laurita, you might see us bring out our Grape Presses and sorting equipment in preparation of the upcoming Harvest. Ask questions, we really don’t mind!
By the By, I plan on releasing the 2010 Chardonnay Reserve and Merlot in late August! They’re delicious!
