As though you needed an excuse…

Sure, overconsumption can be hazardous, and you may have made some terrible life choices thanks to wine. But drink wine in moderation, and it will improve your life — and your health — in a wide range of ways.

The New York Post offers 13 reasons to drink more wine (aside from the fact that you already love wine)!

Fun in the Sun

Would you believe wine can help prevent sunburn? Skin burns in the sun as in internal reaction to UV rays. Drinking wine helps to break that molecular chain reaction.

Sounds complicated, but in a nutshell, the flavonoids in wine inhibit the ROS in skin cells that are exposed to UVA and UVB rays. That’s not to say that drinking wine in the sun is a great health care plan.

Keep Your Wits About You

People who drink in moderation are less likely to develop dementia. The difference in dementia rates can be as high as 23 percent!

Professor Edward J. Neafsey said, “We don’t recommend that non-drinkers start drinking. But moderate drinking, if it is truly moderate, can be beneficial.”

Breathe Easy

Wine can be beneficial to your breathing in more ways than one.

“An antioxidant component in red wine may be protective of lung cancer, particularly among smokers.”

And white wine has been found by researchers in the Netherlands to improve lung function.

Reach for Resveratrol

You’ve probably seen (we have) articles on the miraculous properties of resveratrol everywhere from the internet to supermarket checkout lines. And while it may have seemed like more quackery from paid experts trying to sell magazines, each of the uses for resveratrol in this article come from scholarly research, not paid shills.

Prostate, breast, and bowel cancers are all inhibited by resveratrol. The same compound has been shown to slow the body’s overall aging process, and can help fight insulin resistance. It can also help to prevent blindness and heart disease.

Tip Your Glass!

Many of these health benefits could be obtained by eating resveratrol. You can find it in red grapes, peanuts, blueberries, and even some species of pine. Or you could run out and pick up a supplement.

But c’mon. You can get it from wine!!

So we’ll let you choose your own delivery method. But for us, if all these health benefits can be had through the enjoyment of something we already know and love… well…
