WORLD’S TALLEST SANDCASTLE TO BE BUILT AT LAURITA WEST BENEFITING NORTHERN OCEAN HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Ed Jarrett, world-renowned sculptor and four-time Guinness World Record holder for the Tallest Sandcastle, will break ground on a new sand sculpture to benefit Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity. The site of the sculpture will be built at Laurita West on a site known as ‘Castle Laurita West,’ adjacent to the Laurita Winery in New Egypt by the helping hands of Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity volunteers.
This isn’t Jarrett’s first attempt at the world record. After he built the world’s tallest sandcastle by hand in 2013 in Point Pleasant Beach, Guinness World Records changed its rules to allow machines in the construction process. Now, Jarrett hopes to break the world record for a fifth time, without the use of power tools, and bring the title back to New Jersey.
The project, dubbed ‘Hands vs. Machines 2016,’ is in need of thousands of volunteers and is open to the public. Come spend the day on the work site to help build the world’s tallest sandcastle. For a donation of $20.16 individuals may work on the site for an entire day; others can simply donate sand for $1 per bucket. All monies raised will be used towards the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity home in Toms River for a local low-income family on a donated lot from Toms River Township. Groundbreaking will be on Wednesday, April 20. 2016 at 5:30 p.m. with construction carrying on daily from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information on volunteer registration and scheduling, call and leave a voicemail at 732-228-7962 ext. 108.
